Will Your Enterprise App Succeed?

Comments ( 0 )

In a perfect world an enterprise app will be created under time and under budget with little to no bugs.  Unfortunately this is not the case and many mobile business apps have the potential to completely fail.  A lot of money is being spent by IT to create the best apps on the market, but sometimes money is not enough.  There are still many ways that an enterprise app can fail.

One of the biggest issues facing mobile business apps is a poor user experience.  This includes, among other things, a poor user interface.  Many times when mobile app developers sit down to develop an app they approach it from the perspective of coding, not thinking of the final user experience.  There is no way that an app can succeed if no one is using it.  It doesn’t make sense for companies to sink money into a mobile business app that drives employees to use other apps.  If you do not want you app to fail the user experience is where you need to start.

Another way mobile business apps have a high tendency to fail is through a lack of defined tasks.  This includes workflow problems when running an app that is designed for a specific size of device.  Sometimes apps are designed with the idea of a tablet or larger smartphone screen in mind which does not translate to smaller screens.  If the mobile business app is not able to perform the tasks that it was creating for, or if users cannot extract necessary data then the app is doomed to fail.

While not a physical part of the app, the amount of back end support makes a difference in the success of the mobile enterprise app.  This means being able to access data from anywhere including sending and receiving important data.  It is not just about the access, but also the speed and efficiency of how the data is sent and received.  For true back end support users should be able to tie into the company’s data base and use important enterprise functions like an enterprise app store and remote IT support.

Even after an app is deployed it is not immune from failure.  A lack of a long term plan for a mobile business app is sure recipe for disaster.  The inability to update the app and adapt to user’s changing needs puts an app in danger of becoming obsolete.  This does not just mean being able to build on what is already there, but also being able to strip it down and have a strong structural base if needed.

Mobile business apps are an invaluable tool for companies across the board.  That is, of course, if they work.  Without proper planning and taking the right steps your app may never be able to succeed.  It is important to institute safe guards that aid in the success of your mobile business app.  This includes both the app itself and the support the app and its users get from IT.  With a strong app and a strong network you will have better odds of maintaining a successful business app.
